Turning a utility app into a live show builder tool.
1Vision gives high school sports the experience of a college or professional team. It takes a lot of moving parts in creating weekly live shows. There are bummer animation, hype videos, instant replays, sponsored segments, and commercials. The Broadcaster was used by the production team to build immersive sports experiences.
The Problem
The first iteration of the broadcaster was mainly read-only. And did a lot of the actions in the background, using video keyboards and hotkey interactions. The production team could play videos and ad graphics. But every show item was imputed manually using CSVs and then imported. For every video, game segment, and graphics asset. If it had to be listed out in the correct order for the show, with no on-the-fly adjustments.
Original Design
The Solution
The first thing to go was the manual use of CSVs to pull in all the assets. The dev team developed an auto-magic advertising backend. Taking care of putting advertisements in correct order and placement for digital signage. Allowing the production to focus on live gameplay and produced videos.
Designed a show builder mode that added features to add and reorder during a game.
Media library of produced videos that could be drag-and-dropped in the playlist.
Preview area to confirm correct video and audio.
We also added visual chips to let the production team see actions from the mobile Producer App.
The Result
The production team had an updated app that helped them create the best sports experience. That could fit into the fast pace environment of live production.
