Projects

My Design Process

Discovery: Do my best to careful listening to the project plans. Identifying the correct problems that must be solved is crucial for a successful outcome as well as keeping the project from having too much scope creep or not enough features.

Research: Try to create user personas that best fit the target audience. Overarching user flows for users to be able to use the product. Searching for similar products or well know patterns to use only as inspiration.

Rapid Iterative Sketches: Paper or tablet sketches that explore possible options for solving the major goals. My favorite is using grid 3x5 cards that can be put up on a wall to test user flows.

Wireframes: After exploration with sketches, I take what was learned from that portion and apply it to digital wireframes. While thinking through design structures with components that can be applied to the final high res prototypes. I don’t like showing these to stakeholders but it is great for user testing and internal team conversations.

Working Prototype: A high-res working prototype that can be shared with stakeholders or outside user testing. Figma is my tool of choice.

Working with Design Systems

Able to work closely with engineering developers to create comprehensive and cohesive design systems. To keep consistent branding across all mobile and web platforms.

My goal for any design system is clear enough to be used by the designers and developers to explore and iterate on product features.

Using design tokens to standardize color, spacing, and basic styling. It can speed up development and faster deployment of system-wide design changes.
